Putting the Zing Back in Your Computer
When old computers start to slow down from repeated use, software is what can put the Zing back into them. There is no need to buy a new computer. All you have to do to make your new used computer shine is clean it up by running freely available software. The regular use of freeware utility programs will speed up any computer that has started to slow down. The trick is running the correct programs.
You will need to download a bunch of software and have the time to run them. What you are trying to do is a major process which ideally should be done in one shot. Some of the scanning software programs could run for an hour or more. So plan on giving up use of your computer for the better part of one entire day. Some programs will have to be run more than once, as well as in combination with other programs. I have developed a long list of software that actually does a great job of speeding up your computer. By the time you are through with my recommended restoration process, your computer will both load faster, as well as run faster.
Surfing the Web is Toxic to Your Computer
When you surf the Web for any length of time your computer collects a large variety of stuff off the Internet, none of which you really want on your computer. Your computer will collect cookies, adware, spyware, malware and possibly even more nasty stuff like Trojans, Viruses, and Worms. Over time, even the benign stuff will slow your computer down from the shear volume of the garbage residing on your computer. You will need a number of different types of programs for this type of clean up. You will need scanners to detect and remove the simple stuff. Plus you should install programs that will protect you while you are surfing the Web once your computer has been cleaned up, such as a firewall, an anti-virus program, and a couple of other cool resident programs. And, perhaps programs that will fix more specific virus infection problems.
Registry Cleaners Work
If your computer is old, used, or had a lot of software changes made over the course of several years you will definitely need to clean up and optimized your computer registry. Cleaning your registry will have a major impact on how fast your computer will load when you first turn it on. Later on you should sort out which of your Start-Up Programs should be loaded into your RAM as resident programs. You will be surprised to see that programs that you thought you had long deleted could still be using up your valuable RAM. Far too many programs try to take over your computer, by running in the background when they are really not necessary at all. Here, again, before you are finished with this task you will have installed several more programs on your computer.
Hard Disk Management
A badly fragmented hard drive will slow your computer down. In addition, nothing will slow your computer down faster than running out of hard disk space. You should always plan on keeping several gigabytes of freespace on your hard drive. If you are nearly out of space on your hard disk then you will just have to uninstall some of your software. And, purchase an extra hard drive that will be used externally that will plug into one of your USB ports. I have recently seen an absolutely huge external hard drive with 750 gigabytes of storage space being discounted at Targets Department store for around $100. So, these units are very easy to locate. Eventually all used computer users will need to add an external hard drive to their computer. You should take the time to uninstall a lot of software in order to free up space on your internal hard drive. And, then reinstall them on your new external hard drive.
