SEO Tips & Tricks: They Don’t Want You to Know About

Must Have Feature

by John H. Gohde on March 17, 2008

John H. Gohde recently came across a new just had to have feature for his SEO blog. The WordPress search feature has always been absolutely horrible. The standard WordPress Search is just plain stupid, as far as John is concerned. John H. Gohde exclaims: What is the point of having a dynamic blog that runs off of its own database, if you cannot search it properly?

John has not come across a single WordPress blog that provided a search feature that any where approached the results provided by most Internet search engines, like Google. Then Mr. Gohde managed to locate a plugin that came close to what he wanted. Naturally, it did not work with his theme. Not only was the plugin not compatible with his theme, but it was not compatible with another plugin.

It took a while to figure out what the actual problem was. I spent some time replacing the PHP modules one at a time. But, I was not able to narrow down just exactly which PHP theme module the plugin was baulking on, let alone the offending line of code.

Blog Search Worthy of a SEO Professional

The new search feature, is a I just had to have it feature. So, I gladly said goodbye to my old theme. And, checked my website for a few themes that might work out. Amazingly, I had three 3-column themes that fit the bill. I, finally, decided upon this one. It is an old theme. No author claimed ownership of it. And, the URL provided did not bring me anywhere near a WordPress theme, let alone this one. Therefore, I am basically using a theme with no name. I chose it because it was pretty close to the layout of my old theme. Furthermore, I have now made so many changes to it, I have corrected so many bugs in it that the theme is now uniquely a SEO theme of my own creation.

Going to a new theme means of course that I lost all of my conditional programming changes. But, I was able to quickly convert the two sidebars to approximately the same old look. And, I was able to quickly make a few needed changes to the style sheet. But, I have lost a number of old features. The CSS style sheet has at least one bug. And a few plugins need to be adjusted.

But who cares?

I now own a WordPress search feature that none of the other so-called SEO professionals are using. My new search feature is 100 percent operational. The search feature on this blog is powered by two (2) separate plugins. Your search terms are highlighted in a tiny snippet of relevant text. Further you can sort the results, several different way.
