SEO Tips & Tricks: They Don’t Want You to Know About

Trackbacks Should Be Transparent

by John H. Gohde on August 1, 2008

WordPress software will automatically implement trackbacks for you. So, it is a total waste of your time fooling with WordPress’ bizare trackback procedures.

You still have to decide whether or not you want to participate in trackbacks. But, who is kidding who? All comments are nothing, but plugs. And, scraping content is now an accepted way of life on the Internet. So, a link between websites known as a trackback is probably more valued than some brain dead comment. As at least part of your post text is repeated for added emphasis in a trackback.

Transparent Trackbacks

To elect to have have trackbacks you will need to make the following Discussion Options choices:

Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)

Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)

Allow people to post comments on the article
(These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)

All you have to do is insert a link to another website within the body of text of a post, and the WordPress software will automatically take care of all the messing trackback details for you.

  • You do not have to determine if the quoted article is a blog or not.
  • You do not have to determine if the blog is accepting trackbacks.
  • You do not have to hunt for their trackback URL.
  • And, you never have to fill out the trackback URL field in your respective post.

Now, all your trackbacks will be reciprocal links, whereas the standard WordPress trackback is only one way. As in both websites will now be linking to each other. WordPress will automatically make the trackback link for you. And, you never have to waste time on the the messy trackback details.

You always have the option of turning off both comments and trackbacks individually on old posts.
